Default Sun Visor Decals on 72 Vette

Hi All,

New "Start Up Decal" for 72 Vette Sun visor will not stick. The backing had tacky adhesive that wouldn't catch a fly and keeps lifting. I cleaned visor with Alcohol but still no sticky.

Would 3M adhesive affect the appearance of the decal?
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

A better approach would be to clean off the old Armor-All cr@p off the sun visor. If that vinyl isn't squeaky clean, the goo won't stick.

Doug,

I have no answer for you (sorry!), but instead, a question - where did you get that label?

I probably purchased the same (or similar Label) for my 73. It is made out of some type of cloth/paper product with self stick on the back. Even though I cleaned the visor with a Dupli-Color Product it stayed on a few weeks. I reached out to the eBay seller, who never bother to let mine know anything. The vinyl fabric on the visor is slippery, and may add to the adhesion problem. After a go deal of thought, I used the 3M spray adhesive (that HD Sells). Remove visor from the car and then I Masked off the visor so the spray would only be where the label would sit. It worked pretty well, except I should have ensured the adhesive reached the top and bottom edges of the label. The label is not stuck on very good at the top and bottom edge. I can take a picture if you like tomorrow. Also can get the 3M Product Number.

The self-stick labels will not stay adhered for a long time period because the plastic weave material (like all other plastic) is constantly out-gassiing. Plastic is made from oil; so it is gradually reverting to its prior state (re. oily film on the inside of your windshield that needs cleaning every few weeks). Once enough molecules of oily stuff forms under the label, it will fall off. Not sure there is anything you can do to change that.
