Default 1969 Engine Replacement

Looking for information about bolting my 69 manual 4 speed to a new 350 small block. I understand their is some type of modification needed for this, unless I use a gen 1 small block. Input would be appreciated.

the 2 piece rear main seal is still available. Jasper engine and trans offers several. The real issue is to use you original flywheel for the small block and clutch setup. Vette had a 10.4 clutch if I remember right. Other than that I think your all good. When ordering make sure you tell the company you it from that it is for a manual trans so the hole will be there for the pilot bearing. Most sbc cranks had the hole on the back. You can also use a one pirate rear main seal if I remember right. I hope this helps.

Looking at a new crate one. I do not have the original, or any for that matter.

If you are looking for a new motor all together then a gen 1 crate with about 375 to 400hp would be a good reliable engine and all the C3 specific mounts and pulleys would be easy to find rather than trying to piece meal a working accessory drive together. Do you have a specific torque and HP specification you want?

if your looking into modern engine look at GM performance ,plug and play series ,these are ls1-ls9 that come with a complete wiring harness and computer, fuel injection. You can get a complete engine transmission wiring harness 4l60-6l80 with adjustable stand alone Tcm to drop right in. It’s a great deal.

If you go the LS swap route you are going to need alot of additional mods like cooling, exhaust, accessory drives, etc.....THe only real benefit is the heads and you can get very good aluminum heads that will flow just as well with the gen 1 motor. Adding computers is just another thing to go wrong.

so, Lookin4, you are saying you have a 69 that HAS no engine in it? if so, you need to come up with a list of what you DO have. and a dollar figure you are ok with to make this into a running car. before you get any deeper involved, you need to understand the condition of the frame, birdcage, etc to be sure this kind of expense is justified? is this a clean pretty car that has no engine? or is this a tired beat project that needs everything, including an engine?

Derekderek, frame is good, all glass work is done, car has been soda blasted and it is completely stripped down. Have all parts to include new interior with redone gages. I also have transmission. What I don’t have is anything for the engine, so I will need everything under the hood.

Bought a new ZZ4 350/400+hp from GM Performance Parts catalog. Plopped it into my 68 with no problem. I think the ZZ4 has now been superceded by another similar hp engine.

everything under the hood is kind of vague. mptpr is missing but all the parts are in boxes is one thing. but need motor, radiator, shroud, fan, all accessories, brackets, mounts, exhaust... you have trans. clutch? linkage? flywheel? if you truly need everything, it will about double the cost and even more the time and energy to buy the stuff and research pics to see where it all goes. you may want to consider finding a neglected or wrecked car for the little stuff. and removing the parts teaches you where they all go too. here are a lot of corvette parts... https://www.copart.com/vehicleFinder...way%22:null%7D or since it will probably not be anything like original, contemplate an LS swap, complete with the 6 speed. https://www.copart.com/vehicleFinder...ch%22:false%7D
