A friend has a 75 with a stuffed gb. He has been offered a 4sp from a 68. Distance prevents him from comparing the boxes so the question is, would it be a hassle free swap

Cheers Brett
No, it is not hassle free. Totally different. Not much will match up. Input and output shafts different, shifters and linkage are different. Clutch disk and output yoke are different. I would not do the swap.
I've done it. You would need some adapters to fasten the 75 shift arms to the transmission. Earlier model transmissions have studs where the shift arms fasten, smaller size shoulders. You may be able to get some from Summit or another supplier. As stingr69 mentioned, the input shaft may be different requiring a change of clutch disk. You may need a different yoke for the output though I was able to use the original. No switch for TCS if your year requires one.
I prefer the later versions, post 68, because the shift arm shoulders are bigger, bolt on, not studs.
I am sorry for my ignorance but what is a Gb trans. I thought they were Muncie or Borg Warner. I had a Saginaw in my 74 Nova but didn't think they used those in Vettes?
