Default Vacuum Canister

Hello friends to start off, I have an 81' and I found some kind of Vacuum Canister right behind the front driver wheel well. It has several hoses coming from it but are blocked off by a screw or just left lying around. There is one hose that connects to a metal pipe that runs along the frame to the rear wheel well of the car but can't make out where it connects to from there. Anyone know what this canistee is for and what the hoses would connect to? If I don't need it I'd rather just remove it. There is a similar canister that is up front that connects to the headlights.

Sounds like vapor canister for containing fuel fumes. No reason to get rid of it..

Exactly, but better to just leave it as is.

the metal tube that runs down the frame is your fuel tank vent line. leave it open or get a vented gas cap. the rest can be removed and placed in the bin
removed mine years ago. it's all about not venting those gas tank fumes into the atmosphere. really not needed.

every bit as necessary as the cat and the egr valve. it could hurt you if your only buyer lives in California or PA not many states emission test anything older than 96 anymore. keep the parts.
