Default Shocks for my 72

I tried a search to see if there were any threads and didn't find anything.
I probably should replace my 15 year old AC Delco shocks. Not looking to break the bank. What about KYB shocks. Excel and Gas-a-just.
Bilstiens are a little pricey for my kind of driving.
Also see AC Delco gas, Monroe, Gabriel, etc.
Suggestions? I have a 7 leaf rear spring if that matters. 72 LT-1.

i was VERY disappointed in my front AC Delco gas mexico made shocks... one came apart at the rubber area..warranty blows
of course i went bilstein.. you can get rock auto ~ 100 =/- a pop..
i think KYB USA made... if not USA Bilsteins i would go USA direction..

You’re not driving a 6 cylinder Nova. Koni’s or Bilstein’s - they’re not that much more expensive.

If you are going to keep the car for 'decades', buy the Bilsteins. They are great for function and they last a long, long time (20 years or more is not uncommon for a modestly used vehicle).

Remember the old adage...."Pay me now, or pay me later." If you pay now, you can enjoy the ride for as long as you own the car.

If money is an issue, the KYB's should be fine for normal driving.

After running Bilstein's on a couple of vehicles now (73 Vette, 02 Blazer ZR2), I'll never buy anything but them now.

Great shocks! Worth the extra few $$ IMHO.

Well, in doing a search, I can get 4 KYB Excels. Front only for Gas-a-just. The rears aren't available anywhere and neither are the Bilsteins.
I don't plan on keeping this car too much longer so I may just go with the KYBs. I'll wait a little while to see if anyone gets the rears in stock, otherwise it will have to be
the Excels.
I just replaced my strut rods and holly crap can I tell a difference. The old ones were completely shot.

Bilsteins are the way to go, unless you are going coil-overs. You might find that you like the car enough to keep it!

I have some old Bilsteins on my 72 that were there when I got it. I'm gathering parts to do some re building and am gonna get Bilsteins again. Worth a few extra coin.

If you are considering Bilsteins, then you should take a look at non-adjustable QA1.

QA1 TN403 should fit all C3s.

If you are not going to keep the car that much longer, just put Delco gas shocks on it and call it a day. Save the money on this one.

Do you know if these will change the static ride height? I dont want the Jeep look and with the Bilsteins it sits just right

Don't know how stiff the gas-a-just are for the vette but when I put them on my Grand National it raised the rear about an inch and a half. Made it ride like an Amish buggy. Took them off 2 weeks later.

Not sure if a shock can raise riding height, because it wouldn't be riding on the spring any more. Kind of defeats the purpose.
