no leaks at all anywhere.. then a small drip to now a faucet.. any thoughts as to WTH is leaking? i have brake cleaned and wiped and still dripping behind bracket..down seam it looks like,.. the only bolt near is the mount that goes through it..
i touched nothing on the pump other than adding fluid..
thoughts as to typical problem areas?
all hose seem tight and leak free.. only spot i cannot see somewhat is around that bolt that goes thru?

Notwithstanding all the previous work on the power steering, I take it you've narrowed down the leak to the power steering pump assembly? I say "assembly" because it consists of two main parts: the power steering hydraulic pump and the surrounding "can" that serves as the fluid reservoir. Leaks all appear to be coming from the reservoir "can." There's a big O ring around the pump body. Leals from this O ring will come from the front of the assembly. These are low pressure leaks and will be slow drips. uThe pump assembly has the high pressure outlet on the back side and two bolts to mate the can to the pump body. The two bolts have O rings getween the can body and the pump body. Leaks from these bolts will be low pressure drip drips. The high pressure outlet has an O ring between the fitting and the can and leaks here will be drip drip. The high pressure outlet has another O ring for high pressure.....if the leak comes from here, it's be a vigerous spert......like a faucet. In working with your PS, maybe you've inadvertently loosened the high pressure out let. Checking out the pump body to reservoir can sealing characteristics is easy.......once you take to pump out.
If it's rebuild time Gates 350390 worked great on my 77.
Rockauto $8.53 full kit just like pictured below.
There will be a couple extra "O" rings not required.
Don't forget to re-install the reservoir magnet and use Automatic Transmission assembly lube on the "O" rings and bushing when installing.
Here is what my kit consisted of plus a couple extra "O" rings:
If the pump housing is leaking and a new pump reservoir is needed Zip #SC-811

you would be correct sir..drips..but faucet meant 2 foot puddle overnight..
looks likerust creepagr oring large…
i got a kit at advance auto..but of course an issue..the case seal looks to be square???? And the kit is an oring? Same with high pressure o ring…the othe three appear to be square in the kit.. @bmotojoe thanks for kit..can you verify its an oring or square?
thank you for replies… Square old? Round new? Wrong kit? Rist creep seal i think Open fresh and orifice size
No Pulley removal i want in and out…
so the reservoir seal is square? Or is it squished to look square? The new kit does have square o rings for the studs and one other…but the large reservoir one new is round..i read the 77 and earlier were square but boy does this one look square
You probable have your pump installed and back on the road by now...
I bet they sell thousands of the kit you purchased with no sealing problems.
no sir.. cleaning and working..but you just gave me the confidence to move forward with o ring..
getting rust out of inside of housing, cleaning up mating surfaces..engine brackets detailing..
thank you...

EVAPO-RUST? Good Stuff...
If anyone needs a full set Gates #350390 it contains the following:
Back together! No drips! Warmed up on jacks left right..built some bubbles up but smooth and no leaks!!
as recommended and learned..
- transmission assembly grease all orings
- remove alternator AND the bracket..or you will. Struggle with oem shroud etc..ymmv..scratched up my nice paint job before i removed it, and opportunity to clean paint bracketry etc..pay attention to bolt length see pic
- no need to remove bolt to motor mount but remove the other two bolt of ps bracket..it’s two pieces
- gm fluid $12.99
- advance auto $17 orings
- that original rubber hose for return line major pita…you cannot slice it off as its part of hard line..but thankfully enough slack and shoved on far enough to cut and reuse fresh with worm clamp. Consider replacing this line as its really hard to get off.
- i think some corrosion creaping to oring started the issue..sanded and scotchbrite o ring area smooth and evaporust to remove rest including a surprising amount of rust inside above the fluid level.
- hoping for no leaks am
just in time for monsoon
thank you for help guys!
