I'm in the process of some speedo work on my '74 coupe (L48/M20/3:36, FWIW), and I have one of those old-fashioned 90 degree cable adapters with no grease fitting. I cleaned the cable and jacket and then lubed it with graphite on the bottom 2/3. My problem is that I haven't been able to find information about what to use for the adapter. Chassis grease? Lithium grease? Motor oil? Gear oil? Graphite? EVOO?
Hi, Lars. Would the stock routing be in my assembly manual? Why would this have been added to the car? From what I see, losing the adapter would require quite a bend in the cable as the tailshaft housing is rather close to the tunnel wall.

I would use a little grease if you can get it to the gears. I have to use one on my 5 speed to reverse the cable rotation, and it gets lube from inside the case...Dont know if its supposed to but it does
I re-clocked my distributor so that the cable pretty much comes straight out. I think there might have been a GM bulletin that came out about this way back when...
