Default Flexplate Dowel pin
The crank on my new engine doesn't have a dowel for the flexplate. Is it necessary to have one?

Not sure what engine you have but the pin is really just needed for the externally balanced engines. For small blocks, if it's there - leave it, if it's not, don't put it in. For anything that was balanced with the flywheel you need to have it indexed correctly

Never seen a dowel pin for the flywheel or flex plate on any V8 Chevy or Mopar. The bolts are staggered so they can only go on one way.

stock vette 454 crank with dowel
