Default Removing air pump system

I have a smog air pump system on my 72 Vette and I'm in the process of getting it ready for an engine transplant.
I've never owned a car with this system and know nothing about it. All I want to do is disconnect and remove it and when I put new engine in
pretend it was never there. So what do I need to do so my car will run without it hooked up? It will be temp untill my new motor is in,
then it will be permanent. Is there anything I need to leave in to make my current and future motor keep running?
ie. fuel pump?, vacuum lines? etc
Thanks

The most important item is to remove the tubes that sit inside the ports on the exhaust manifold. Then use a plug to block the opening. Do not just disconnect the belt on the pump, and leave the system in tact.

No problem. You can remove the smog pump and its attached diverter valve; the hoses that run to the check valves on the exhaust manifold air injector pipes; remove the check valves and injector pipes; plug the 8 holes in the exh manifolds where the pipes entered. The vacuum hose that plugged into the diverter valve can be plugged.

On the passenger side of the intake manifold should be a transmission controlled spark solenoid (TCS). That can be removed, and a single length of vacuum hose run from your vac advance to the carb connection, instead of the two that are there now. There will be a 2-wire terminal plugged into the back of the TCS; unplug it and hide it in amongst the hoses and wiring on the firewall.

Fuel pump will be OK, but you'll want to set your timing to have 34 to 36 degrees of advance at 4000 rpm. Might want to add lighter advance springs. Many threads on this aspect with more and better info than I just gave.

I think that covers it. Others will comment if not. Oh, and after everything is off you'll be able to remove an unused pulley or two...

Back in the 70's we just took off the belt to the pulley.

You can do that. When my smog pump seized I just pulled the belt off. Didn't make no never-mind..... but I think he wishes to remove all the stuff.

Honestly, there's no immediate need o disconnect it, unless it's a personal; thing. What are going to lose 1 HP? I would wait, since it's a lot easier to work on the manifold on a bench, especially if there's a lot of rust.

I didn't think it was. But given all the detail Catfish provided I thought maybe there were some details my late teens gang didn't know about. I figured if I was wrong someone would way in.

You could burn up your check valves, and the diverter would be next. If it matters.
