Hi folks, I'm doing some work on my '81's cooling system. I haven't had a boil over yet but the system seems marginal and runs at the top end of temp pretty much all the time (200-210) with the fans always running. Anyway, I was going to flush the system and put some fresh coolant in when I noticed that the water pump outlet is higher than my radiator inlet and cap. Previous owner put in a 5.3L vortec from a truck using the truck water pump with the top outlet. Is it still possible to burp the air out of this system with the cap below the pump outlet? Thanks!
That's a quick and dirty option. Thanks for that link. But, is it required to properly get the air out with the above setup? Probably not the best setup to start with so I'm trying to get all the basics done properly (seals to the core, seal to the hood, cap good, air burped, etc) before going more drastic. Thanks for the input.

Definitely not required. A lot of cars have the radiator lid below the top of engine and they all are a bit of a PIA to clear air. Burping consists of starting the engine and massaging the air into the radiator. This can be done by pushing the upper rad hose down and/or massaging it at the same time as the initial thermostat opening. With some convincing the air will generally go into the radiator where it will exit into the storage tank. Good luck.
Ok thanks. That is exactly what I did and after a few rounds of pumping saw no more bubbles but just wasn't sure with the somewhat wonky setup. Will be pulling the rad for a proper clean/flush/inspection and thermo change next. Thanks!
