Default Summit plug wire set

Hey guys,

Have any of you used this Summit wire set, SUM-860829:

If you have, I have a couple of questions -

Are the longest wires in the set long enough to loop under the ram's horn manifolds as the originals (1972 350)?

Is the wire outer diameter sized so that the wires will still fit into the stock rubber plug wire dividers in the ignition shielding?

I have ordered through Summit, the Standard Automotive Brand wires for my 77. they were perfect. I have all the factory ign shielding, covers, clips etc. They were inexpensive and exact copy of original

Don't know the answer to your question but I've used the summit 8mm wires on mild stuff with shorty headers and they seem like decent wires.

I plan to use a moroso kit for custom wires to fit my 2.5" ramhorns, guess I'll find out if that kit is long enough.

I bought PerTronix https://www.summitracing.com/parts/p...ette/year/1971 for mine". Already terminated. Just a bit too long for 1, 3, and 2. I always hate sort for the right length in the set. I try to match to originals for length.
Call them and quiz the tech.

I've used two sets on my cars in the last year. (I actually exchanged the set you referenced for the straight plug set.) Being big blocks, I can't speak to your routing question but they were all of such length that I had to trim for each plug position. They're 7mm which fit in the stock wire holders perfectly. Also, they're made by Packard as evidenced by the ink markings on the wires.

Guys,

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at the 860829 set because it has right angle boots on the distributor end; I'm tired of seeing the straight boot ends cause the wires point upward, only to get bent and squashed down by the distributor top shield. Plus I want to route them myself and cut to the length that has the least hanging excess leftover.

I won't be able to use the 26820 wires because they're for an HEI distributor. Mine is the medieval-style points distributor.

have a few sets of summit brand 8mm wire never had an issue they hold up pretty good.
Not sure about fitment youll have to ask them Id imagine they are plenty longer than most sets

Switched to Napa Belmar (belden ?sp) 8mm...work great, nice non stick finish (oil wont stain), feel like better quality over all and only $30 a set.
Imo spending lots of $ for a fancy name didnt make the car run any different plus some of those boots get too close to the header due to their design.

The straight boot I referred to is for the spark plug end -- on big blocks they have better air space between the manifolds than the angle plug ends. Straight boots won't work with a small block if you want to use the factory routing and wire shields. The sets are the same other than the plug boot style.

Yep, agreed. What I'm looking to do is have a wire set with right-angle boots on top of the distributor, instead of the straight boots that stock sets have, and which cause the wires to point straight up. With right-angle boots, they wires will fit better beneath the distributor cover. The wire set I referenced includes both right-angle boots and straight-end boots. I'd assemble mine with the right-angle option. The wire set has only right-angle boots at the spark plug end, which is to be expected.
