what year, and do you have anew radiator. If it was a standard trans 68 or 69 then yes, you would want to upgrade the radiator. IF its a later model or has the automatic trans larger radiator, or big block radiator then it would be fine. The later model cars had an issue with the smaller radiators and small air dams not providing enough flow at cruise, THis is where the radiator seals become important to force the air flow through the radiator. If you have a decent size air dam you should be okay as well.
Most real concerns are in traffic or slow cruising at the beach that relies on the fan to pull air through the radiator. So you need to make sure you have the fan shroud installed and that your stock clutch fan is working properly. I would suggest doing away with the clutch fan and installing a high flow electric radiator fan. Dont skimp on quality as the cheaper ones are really loud and you car will sound like a jet engine....not a good thing. LOts of different theories on this but the bigger the cubes, the more heat its going to make. My big block stays at 185 to 190 all day long cruising around with a new aluminum radiator and electric fans
do it wrong and an iron duke 4 banger will overheat in a vette. do it right and a 572 will stay cool. yours is a blank slate. you need a new rad anyway. i like the c5 corvette fan setup. 100 bucks used and fits the radiator well.

120 new, wow.
Adapt these to the tilted radiator, or the whole C5 shroud assembly?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/31357841089...gAAOSwpDJg1Knc i used a couple pieces of aluminum angle screwed tp the top and bottom frames bordering the core and the shroud fit it perfect. Then I cut up a lid from a storage bin and I made up the missing pieces of plastic on both sides of the shroud. I found a black one so that it kind of matched. Don’t have any pics of that right now though..

Don’t have any pics of that right now though.. need to offset the fans a bit to the left to clear the upper control arms. and way way easier to get in and out of the car.

Same here, ultimate in longevity and are usuallyt strong. If they can keep a sports car, truck etc from from running hot they got my vote. '
Derek how are you wiring those fans up?
and i bought 2 oem fan plugs. little pricey at 14 bucks each. some used shrouds may come with the plugs. most will not. running both fans on around 185 and off around 160 or so. the cheapo amazon sensor runs pretty close to advertised. later i may double up on relays and sensors and run each fan separately. whole thing is a mess right now. trying to pack everything i own and get rid of unnecessary stuff and drag it all 1100 miles south as quick as possible and makes working on the car or boat most difficult...

I run a Dart headed 406 in my 72'. It has the bone stock rad, water pump, 7 blade fan and clutch. It never goes over 190 degrees ever......
My upper hood seal is gone as I run the L-88 hood. But...I have spot on timing specs and jetting and I drilled the lower steam holes only on the Dart heads..(why would you drill the upper, lower is trapped by the cylinders, upper is not). I also have the Fel-Pro block mod I drilled in the block to help keep the two center exhaust ports cooler.....and this helps for a few reasons....I think it is a must for 400's.
The 400 got a bad rap back in the 70's as a perfect storm of bad timing specs, **** maintenance, and less flexibility to run on low coolant.....almost all were put in Craprice's that nobody took care of.
My Aunt had a 77' in the 80's and it overheated because she never did **** to it......never checked the coolant one time.
The cylinder walls are just as thick as a 350.....just that one area of the bore has no water going next to it.....
