Default Vacuum Tank Disconnect Question.

I have a 73, Coupe and I'm converting over to electric headlight actuators and will be upgrading my A/C to a Vintage Air system.
I have power brakes and distributor vacuum advance which run off engine vacuum.
There will be no emission equipment on my new engine and I'll be running a manual transmission.
Besides the headlights, what else runs off the vacuum tank (no wiper door on a 73)?
Can I disconnect all the vacuum lines to and from the tank and run off engine vacuum only?

The climate control switches, wheels, and dampers run off vacuum... (not sure how A/C upgrade affects those components).

The power brake boster gets its vaccum @ the rear base of the carb (and has a check valve), Your heater distribution controls (also has a chack valve) and the transmission get their vaccum @ the intake manifold just before the distrubutor. The big vaccum resivor up front was for the headlights only.

Perhaps this is different for different years or options, but my '72 LS-5 definitely does not pull vacuum from the intake manifold for the climate control system.

Correct, OP said his was a '73, there is a fitting that is screwed into the top of the intake manifold with (2) ports, one for the trans and the other routs around the distrubutor and enters the fire wall next to the wiper motor.

This is good to know.
Thanks!
I will be running a TKO-600 manual 5 speed so as far as I know there will be no vacuum going to the transmission.
I'm just wondering if there is anything I don't know of that pulls vacuum from the tank up front.

I did this on my '73. With Vintage Air, electric headlight conversion, computer controlled transmission, and EFI, I've eliminated any need for vacuum from the tank. My only vacuum needs at the moment are fuel pressure regulator, PCV, brake booster, and charcoal canister.

Hey Greg-

Here's a great pic- thanks to Willcox- of what the tank supplies-

When you disconnect the "tank"- put some caps on it to keep moister/water out.

Thanks, this is exactly the type of information I was hoping for.
I was planning on leaving the tank in place.
Did you remove and replace it with another type of frame support that is lighter weight?

Hey Richard.
You always seem to have a diagram for everything.
What is the component in the top right corner of the Wilcox Diagram?
Thanks, Greg

Years of just putting them in folders- never seemed to do it in years past with real paper folders and those silly filing cabinets
- but the computer makes it soooo much easier and makes me look like I'm super organized!!!

No, I left the tank in place and capped off the fittings to keep moisture out.
