I recently installed new heads, cam and lifters on my 74 small block. The cam is a hydraulic flat tappet from Comp Cams (XE262H) the lifters are also Comp Cams. Some of the lifters seem to bleed down overnight. I will get valvetrain noise on startup for a few seconds then they quiet down and stay quiet. The engine is running smooth and feels stronger than it ever has.
Do I have some defective lifters? Could it be too little or too much preload? I set all the rockers at 1/2 a turn past zero lash. The lifters were quiet on the first start up for break-in, and I went back through and rechecked all the preloads after break-in and everything seemed good. The engine probably only has 25miles on it since the upgrades.
Any input would be appreciated.

Probably louder than what was in there before due to the XE nature of the cam. It's a high intensity lift flat tappet cam. Means the cam lobes move the lifter for less crankshaft rotation than a stock cam by a lot.
If it is worrisome try not pumping the throttle before cranking and let the oil pressure come up a bit before adding fuel and letting it start.
