Getting ready to recurve timing advance per Lars method. I have a stock L48 1980. Does anyone know which spring set to use to get the correct full in at 2500-3000 rpm?
I have a spectre set 5754 and a Mr gasket set 928G. I would like to avoid trial and error if possible. Is there another spring set I should get? Any help is appreciated!
The 928G kit should have come with a very detailed timing chart of what each color spring set would do.
I seem to recall: One Blue. One Silver, maybe.
But others will chime in.
Your timing light will tell the story if its perfect or not. Along with your throttle response.
I barely recall an issue with either the 928 or 929? Something about the plastic bushings be too loose maybe?

Depends on the brand of recurve kit. I ended up with one soft and one medium with the kit I bought. Don't remember the brand. Two mediums was not enough and two soft springs had timing coming in WAY too soon. That would be where I would suggest you start and adjust that selection based on the results of that attempt.
I used one light and one medium to get all in at 2800 rpm in my 79 L48. The weights are also a variable, hopefully your dist is in good shape, and you can make it all work without changing them out.The best way to do it is a bit of trial and error.
Do you have a dial-back timing light, and/or an harmonic balancer marked with MSD timing tape?
