I have a set of barely used piston rods and pistons that were used in a 427 small block. The engine builder put all the old parts in a box for me to keep, reuse or sell. I was cleaning out my shop and not noticed that the rod caps were lose and not marked with what rod they belong to. My question is are the rod caps matched to each specific rod when purchased? and now because they are mixed up are essentially trash?
I may try to sell....they are 4" stroke Eagle H beam rods and Ross pistons for 0.030" overbore pistons.
Someone with very good gaging and plenty of time + patience will have to assemble-measure-disassemble repeat Many times in order to find correct combo that measures all bores round.
Or pay a machine shop to resize all eight rods.
which Ross pistons? Pics + part number?

you can also sit down when you have time and start matching the machine marks inside the bores of the big ends. you will be surprised how well you can tell a match from a non-match.

interesting. It is good to know that all is not lost. I was going to just throw them away but will hang onto now.
Are the rods and caps made for a radius ground throw type crank shaft? Higher quality rods are all the same as are the caps. I just ran an interior Mic around each rod and cap set of mine to make sure that they were good to go with my new H type bearings. I'd just assemble them with new arp 12 points. just a question, what is the cc dish, valve diameter cuts, C/R with 64 cc heads, and max valve lift. Like my Wiseco customs were for up to 2.20 intakes and .850 max lift with some clearance value so they could even be used on 18 degree heads
You can play shell game mix and match.....takes a bit but it can be done.
Look for matching up the parting line, the side chamfer and the side clearance grinding.
