Alternator belt issues

it was the bracket. Purchased a period one off ebay and fits perfectly and allows me to tension the belt easily. The other bracket was a different shape and never fit right.
bracket on. Belt tight and on correct pulley. And no squeal and everything functions correctly. I will consider changing the other belt to be correct with the diagram but for now this works and i want to be done working on it for the summer and just enjoy it a bit. Thanks for all the help.
oh and i bought a new grounding wire that i will be attaching correctly near the starter when it arrives.

1. Take that flex-a-lite fan and see how far you can throw it into the garbage tip.
2. Notice the extreme mis-alignments of the pulleys...belt are designed to run in ONE PLANE, not two.
3. Belts are designed to run IN THE V GROOVE...not on top and not at the bottom of the pulley.
4. Belt tension is defined by the deflection of the belt up and down in the center of the longest span of the particular belt. Usual rule of thumb is 1/2"
5. Too much Tension and you can kiss your waterpump/alternator/A/C what-have you bearings good bye. Too little and the belt makes noise, shucks itself off the pulley and in your case due to the mis-alignment, ROLLS OVER itself.
Start THERE!
Good luck....only 100,000 guys have had the same problem. It does take some fiddle #$%^-ing to get the whole system right...but when you do, you can settle down to a decade of peace!

Belt rotation
New pulleys of the correct diameter for each component.
Idler pulleys
Tensioner pullies.
Dust and grit infusion
And the big one.....one belt breaks and you're walking.! Of course the same could be said for the WP belt...but I carry tools and a spare....been there for 25 years in the jack compt! (I hate walking...and even WORSE walking AWAY from your vette parked by the side of the road! You can hear the 'HUNS' coming every step! lol
ETC. I own Two vehicles with serpentines....= MEH!
Like I said...get the system (of belts) set up RIGHT and you have a decade of 'no-troubles'. Yes, it does take a bit of set-up....
Cheers Unkahal
