I'm not familiar with your '80 vette, but I just removed some trim from
my older Mustang to fix a window leak. There is a special tool that allows
you remove the trim without mangling it. I made one myself with some
thin sheetmetal and a vise. Try a local window shop, they will have a tool
and may even show (or do) it for you. Don't mangle your trim!
I did the same about 2 months ago. Local body shop removed it for free. I had one of the special tools but it was hiding from me that day. You can make one out of thin sheet metal but if you don't know how they should make kind of a J hook on the end it might not work to well. Be very careful. The clips are plastic and get brittle. I had a couple of the that were already broke. You have to remove the window to replace them. I powder coated the trim and it looks better than the spray on trim paint. I removed the old paint with stripper and OOOO steel wool. The old paint came off very easily.
