(72 with 350 and stock a/c) When I recently remove my compressor , and I removed the oil plug on the bottom side intending on draining it. Not much came out; as it has not effectively ran more than a few hours since 2000, how much oil would be safe to add and where can I add it (sadly, I reinstalled the stupid thing during my attempted restoration and cannot pour it in the drain hole). I know there is a way to suck it in the system using a vacuum pump drawing vacuum on the high side but really don't want to do that. On the back of the compressor, there is something protruding that is about an inch long, 3/8 inch 'round' and looks like it screws off. is that where I might be able to introduce the oil? Thanks. ps after replacing the main a/c hose and the drier and related orings, it is holding vacuum, so I intend on using R12 and so was going to use ester oil. Thanks
hi pretty sure r12 would be mineral oil..
personally before adding r12.. i would pressure check the system (r12 not cheap) .. and then pull long vacuum overnight..
if i needed to add oil i would put in what you took out and another 3 oz won't hurt..
i would add it at an place on high side after compressor into condenser.. and or split into accumulator..
or just empty system and re measure..
