No, Brass is only for looks. Silicone bronze is what I use and it's tough. Holds up my big blocks on my unique engine stand.
Only problem with welding cast with possibility of liquid leaks is that it is only about 10 percent efective against leaks. I have had to drill and tap holes that were in a position to leak.
Best weld is with the same material.
Seen some good posts here, but I guess I was off on the cast weld.
