This morning was dealing with the Insurance in Seattle and back East.
A adjuster will come out after Christmas to look at it.
Here is what I'm finding wrong with it as of this afternoon:
3 different long scratches on right side and front bumper.
Damaged carpet, steering colum, ignition and door panels.
My new gas emblem gone.
Front end problem... left front tire rubs when turning?
They have to check the engine yet...
We will check it more thoroughly tomorrow.
I am glad you got the car back. I figured that a1% to 2%, or $250 security system to protect a $20,000 CDN car was a good investment. It included the convenient remote door locks, indicator LEDs, and last but not least: a timed-out battery kill switch, sirens etc. The most ingenious kill switch was suggested by another forum member (I forgot his name) who wired both (!) seat belt contacts in series (with delay-timer) to relay for kill switch. You will kick yourself if your car was gone next time.

Cool idea. I'm alarmed and starter/ ignition kill etc.

Jack
1. How did the tow company know your number? Did you call 150 + tow companies throughout the area?
2. How come the tow company did not call the police if they knew it was a stolen vechicle?
3. How come the property manager did not call the police or is it standard policy to call the tow company?
4. Whose apartment is assigned to that parking lot spot?
5. If the occupants of the apartment are there when you come back are you going to confront them? And with police there or frriends?
6. Do you need to borrow my AR-15 or Glock?
The tow company I guess found out it was stolen when they picked it up.
Maybe they have to check the lic # too? Then they reported it to the police.
The towing company won't tell me exactly where they got it...
probably afraid I would go over there with your AR-15 or Glock! :mad
Now, go park it in the exact same spot where they found it. Then sit across the lot in a non-discript vehicle and wait.... :D
That would be so great to catch them in the act. I wish the police would set up sting operations such as a $$$ convertible pulls up to a store and the driver jumps out, say to grab a pack of smokes, leaving the car running then with undercover cops all around waiting for the first dim whit to try to jack it. Entrapment sure but who cares, get them off the street.

Follow up: My 80 (automatic) has a thick purple wire in the center console that opens wile in “park” and in other gears locks out the starter. It can be spliced from time-delay relay as kill switch to lock out the starter.

Well hopefully all will check out with only minor repairs. Be sure that you get a 4 wheel alignment, and if you have printouts from the last time you had it done you can compare. It sounds like they might have hit a curb or something with it. Are there any scrapes down the underside? Do you know how many miles they put on it while it was gone?
At any rate, I'm sure it's a relief to have it back in one piece! :yesnod:
They only put on about 10 "hard" miles on the Vette.
The tank was on empty when they took it and they didn't break the gas cap lock.
It only showed 10 extra miles on the gage.

 The best theft deterent yet, leave the SOB empty, with a locked gas tank!!!!!
Boy, Jack, so glad you have it back now-on the bright side it could have been worse! i kknow this had to drive you up the wall! I wouldn't take a baseball bat-I think that would be a wate of time. Think of the trouble you could get into using the baseball bat--nope, wouldn't take a baseball bat BUT I would take a knife and cut his NUTS OFF!! JMHO.
Bill :reddevil Nahahah
