No. 1"Yep, done all this before. Its the time and energy that are the limiting factors."

Agree!, oh, and not to mention money too, LOL's

Nice Find and keep the photos coming, thanks!

No. 2 "My understanding is that it was left in a field for 5 years at one recent point"

If mine, I would check the windshield frame for bad rust. And unfortunately sometimes difficult to see the extent of rust between the glass and the sheet metal windshield frame. All repairable though, see No. 1

The passenger side window was partially down. Perhaps the whole time in the field. Unknown. It has power windows. I just raised it probably for the first time in many years. The mechanism is nearly completely frozen and it had to be helped to go up.
I shut everything up and then sprayed it with a hose and the T-tops are leaking and its pouring down the mirror and on to the shifter. That probably went on the whole 5 years.
I will be searching for rust. So far, everything is surface rust. The last thing I want to find is rust damage to the birdcage

Exhaust manifolds look like most all early C3 small block manifolds with smog holes. Dates can't be seen without taking them off. These pictures are from a '70 I used to own. I got lucky and got another one that's better.

Welcome to the club! I'm a longtime owner, 45 years, but an amature at best. Mine nearly had a replacement engine... It used a lot of oil and smoked when new. Perhaps because it belonged to a salesman, not a customer, GM said to pull and tear it down. It was missing a ring...

It will be OK as long as you refrain from adding up the invoices!

I have that beat. I bought my 63 in '97, drove it home and began the body of resto. Still not done with it and I have not touched it in over a decade. What the hell was I thinking buying another? Well, this '70 is not going to be a resto. I will fix what needs to be fixed and leave it as a survivor.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for good luck!

"Still not done with it and I have not touched it in over a decade. What the hell was I thinking buying another?"

FWIW, and to maybe cheer you up, I have 5 Corvettes; 2 on jackstands that need rear clips, 2 in primer that I am happy to say I can drive around the backyard, and 1 that I can actually drive legally on the street!

I would say you are ahead of me, LOL's!

You mention some water damage to the interior. This sets off the R alarm, as in RUST. No mention so far about it. I would be looking inside the kick panels and around the windshield frame. And the kick ups on the frame and trailing arms. Rust can kill a project better to find it sooner than later.

I am happy to see people more comfortable with the "CE" engines in their Corvettes. The 427 I have in my C3 is also a CE engine and have caught a lot of flak for it and "originality". The CE engine I have was built to be a L71 for a 1967 Corvette and has the casting date of August of 1967. My C3 was made the first or second week of October of 1967 so the engine is a good match for my particular Corvette.

It seems that a lot of engines were damaged and the simple replacement was a CE engine. I just can't imagine someone blowing up their new 427 to the point where they had to replace the entire engine.

I will never do a restoration on this C3 or join NCRS but I have cases full of parts for it that have come off and can be put back on if they want.

What a bunch of blowhards. Are these folks rolling on original tires/shocks/carbs etc? From the drivers seat, which seems to be from where you mostly enjoy your car, (as do I) the car behaves the same as if it had the born with engine. I'm comfortable with mine because it has all the power of new if not more, and allowed me to get into a model that I couldn't have afforded if it please all the matching numbers weenies.

Default Unidentified parts

Okay, back to the 70 LT1.
I have identified all the parts in the parts pile except for these. Any idea?

These are thick foam pieces.

1. Some sort of rubber seal
2. A bracket of some kind, found with engine parts
3. Chrome cap bolts

The black foam block goes in this location both left and right sides.

I think the rubber seal goes on one of the inner fenders or the splash shield between the frame and under where the side fender louvers are.

Though they appear similar in size to the allen screw holding the drivers side mirror to it's bracket the chrome cap screws do not belong on a 70 corvette.

The rubber seal or gasket goes on the bracket that holds the steering column to the dash.

Would be under rear door trim most likely anti vibration. For 1971 in the AIM it located UPC Bolt Weld page L54 (Body Side-Bonding Of Body Panels To Underbody) Item 12 part number 3956231

Thank you. Are these off a '70 LT1 vette? If so, what is the build date on the matching vette's Trim tag?
Can you make out the date code on the back of the manifolds?
On the front I see:
Right: 3932461 RH 4
Left: 3872765 LH 2

Any idea the significance of the trailing "4" and "2"?

Yes. They are off my Jan 22 1970

LT-1. I will have to take a close look at casting date code. Don't remember detail.
