Default PArking cable information

Ok I am making some progress on my '698 COupe, 327 sbc, 4speed project car, frame off, make it go. Just about finished the rear suspension, and am looking to my next step in the project which is the parking brake cable. I am looking at the AIM, and scratching my head.

The AIM shows the cable going through a hole in the frame crossmember, and the going directly yo the pc bracket and help in place by the "Mickey Mouse" clip

It gives the same basic view or description on this page as well It also shows the return spring (4) hooking into the frame.
I have holes in my chassis at the point indicated for the parking brake cable, however, there is no hole for the return spring! WHere does it hook in??
And moreso

This is my rear parking brake cable. Can SOMEBODY please tell me HOW I get that cable disassembled so I can thread it through the holes in the chassis as the AIM shows?? And then how do you line it up? Dad had it connected at the t/a. but there was no further assemble at that point.
Is it possible the AIM is totally wrong on this? And if so, where does the return spring hook up? Pics will help if necessary. TIA Andy

OK, I found the hole for the parking brake cable return spring. But what is the curved piece under the hole for?

Is it part of the parking brake system? IF so, what does it do? Pictures appreciated!

Andy,

The cable that secures your seat belt anchor plates goes under that curved piece.

Catfish and toylman - thank you both for the info! I will have to search for a cable when I get that far, because I am pretty certain the car didn't come with one. Makes perfect sense. Now toylman, it appears to me the parking brake cable goes under the crossmember. Not completely clear in the picture, bot it seems in the lower right corner the parking brake cable connects to the bracket. Judging from the way the cable is headed in the picture closer to the seat belt anchor plate, it almost has to go under the crossmember rather than through it. IT appears the AIM is WRONG! I just can not see how the parking brake cable could go through the crossmember! Thanks again guys!

Andy, You are correct. Cables do not go through the frame. First 2 are from a 70 I used to own and the rest are from a 72 survivor.

When you start restoring your parking brake, make sure the mechanism in the brake drums are in good shape. Also the brake shoes. Then look up the setup/adjustment of the cable and brake handle. It's easy to mess it up.
I thought my old cable was corroded beyond repair, so I bought a new one. I decided to try and clean up the old cable. It cleaned up better that I would have thought. If I get into it again I will install the old cable.

Toylman,
Thank you for the great pictures! That goes with what I was thinking the way it must go! Onward forward!

kopdpkd - Thank you for the tip on looking up the set up/adjustment. If it is easy to mess up, I can do it! My hardware is all new including the brake shoes. The body is still off the fframe, so it will be a while before final adjustments. Thanks again for all the help!
