Default TKO600 conversion

Hello

I just purchased used TKO600 that came with Hydralic bearing installed. I'm attaching pics below to see if you can provide some imput.

1. Can anyone ID what type of bearing this is? The hydralics look good but the bearing in the front doesn't so I'd need to see if I can source a replace
2. I'm really tworn between going with the hydralic clutch using this bearing or going stock with Zbar. What would you recommend?
3. I also got a cross member but it's for '67 to '69 camaro so I assume it won't line up but just checking to see if anyone knows
4. I need to offset the shifter to have it come up in the right location in the tunnel. Any shifter recomendations? Anyone have the offset inches required to fall in correct postion?

Thank you

The main vendor for these is : TREMEC 5-Speed and 6-Speed Kits: Silver Sport Transmissions (shiftsst.com)

You also probably need the shortened drive line depending on what previous tranny

You might need the offset shifter block for c-3. mine looks different

Agree with GKULL, The modified TKO600 for the C3 has the shifter offset towards the drivers side to place the shifter in the same location as the old 4-speed which was offset to account for the shift rods. I've seen people get around it by modifying the shift lever (welding up metal to form a right angle right at the boot and making the offset in the shifter handle), but the kits used a modified tail housing.

Might be worth calling Silver Sport and seeing if they, or someone else will sell you a tail housing with the modification pre-done.

I went with the hydraulic clutch on mine (American Powertrain kit) when I did the conversion. It works, but I'm not happy with the pedal feel (hard and right up at the top). Most likely fixable by going back in and spending more time ensuring the clutch master cylinder is in better alignment. I put it in so the rod is traveling in a straight line, but not quite perfect I guess. My point is that if you go hydraulic, spend ample time on the master cylinder install and make sure you get it right.

Wish I could help on the hydraulic bearing. Only info I can provide is that the unit is not the same one provided by American Powertrain.

I love my 5-speed. Best modification I have made to the car. The moment you hit 5th for the first time, all the BS will be worth it

Thanks. I called MDL and Silver sport but they are now only offering the machined offset for TKX not TKO. I was told that bolt on offset shifter won't work becuase the height it adds so I may need to get something welded to acheived the offset without increasing height.

Thanks. Did you have a hard time finding room for the clutch master cylinder on the firewall? Looks like it's a very tight fit.

Not apples to apples but I did a TKO 600 in my 73 Camaro LS swap. Made the cross shaft along with the linkage. Used 3/8" rod ends.
Here's a pic. Worked really well.
In regards to the shifter offset I've just made a spacer block or modded the shifter handle to make it fit.

That's a very nice setup. You went with zbar versus hydralic? I was on the fence about that. Do you have any pic of the offset you made for the shifter?

I used my original bellhousing and z bar, works great. I also modified the factory shifter (like you have) by cutting it and welding an offset in, both to move it across and to angle it back as original. I did still have to open the hole in the tunnel a bit to accommodate it, and used an aftermarket rubber shift boot to seal the larger hole, but the stick comes through the console as original and looks factory.

Did you go from auto to 5 speed? Thought bell housing was different from TH350 to TKO600.

Can't find a picture of the completed shifter, but here is as I was mocking it up.

No, 4 speed manual to tko600. You will need a manual bellhousing. If you don't have the manual stuff already then it's probably easier and similar in cost to go hydraulic.

Very nice. Thank you. I'm thinking that I'll just have to cut the tunnel and make an adapter based on measurements. I have a 14 year nephew who just started welding so this will be his project. LOL

I went with the z-bar set was really just because of cost. Saved about $300-400 bucks on the swap. I like the fab stuff. I don't have a pic of the shifter but I think I just made a spacer to move it over to fit the console.

IT was a tight fit, but it does fit. The American Powertrain kit has a nice adjustable mount. Might suggest looking at their site for fabrication ideas if you are going to mount on your own.

Default Update on the progress

Hello all.

I started the project and all is moving along well. Have pedal assembly out and TH350 is ready to come out as well. I removed driveshaft and plan on having it cut as local shop to save some money. I found the yoke (1330) listed on link below can someone tell me if my stock ujoints and straps will work since I'm keeping modified stock driveshaft?

https://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/p32...on_slip_y.html

By the way I had to use a long extension to remove straps for u joint at the differential. Any suggestions on putting them back on? I can't see them going on the same way they came out. Do I need to drop the differential?

Also any recomendation on a starter since I understand it needs to be changed as well. Not sure if it makes difference but I'm using a 10.5" - 153 tooth flywheel
Would this one work? https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...rolet-corvette

After more that 15 hours of reading and youtube viewing the process is going very smooth and I'm having a blast getting it done. I've removed pedal assembly, driveshaft, crossmember and TH350 is hanging ready to come out.

I really appreciate all the help.
