Good morning; I cannot find the information I have been searching for. My son bought a beat up 1971 LT1 corvette. He was told the engine is the original, but I am unable to verify. I found three sets of codes on it besides the casting code but cannot find any information on them. My son is 16 and before he starts sticking money into this, I want to verify if this is the original engine, if not, what did it come in, HP, etc. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Probably not the original engine for that car. Casting number is wrong.
The numbers you need are on the passenger side front of the block on the deck surface in front of the cylinder head. There will be 1 or 2 strings of numbers stamped into the metal. If you can get those, we could tell you more about what it used to be installed into.

a corvette is a corvette. orig engine or not means little. now, a 71 LT1 with matching numbers would be a value add, but if the car is beat, correct or non-orig engine doesn't change value much. it has to be a 20k or higher value car before matching numbers means much. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...orvette-6.html roll down to post 107. read. especially rule 5 rust. ALL 71 LT1 cars are worth serious consideration for total resto. but if the body has to come off the frame and birdcage needs work, it is above the abilities of a teenager and way above the patience level of said teenager's parents...
