So I've been working on this for about 10 years (Yes its a long time but I'm old, and a lot of life issues have come up over the years, plus job changes and moves). It is a restomod, LS2, SRIII Motorsports frame, C4 suspension, and a lot more)
I've used a LT1 long hood to eliminate the wiper door and complexity, American Autowire wire harness & fuse panel. I'm in the final stages of adding Vintage Air which is going pretty well. With the dash out I realized that "oh yeah, the windshield wiper switch and wipers need to be addressed.before buttoning up the dash. So finally here's my question: Since the wiper door is gone, and I need to get a new wiper motor anyway, is there any reason to stick with the 1972 wiper motor or should I get a '73-on up wiper motor?? Any difference really or is it any simpler to get a motor from a year that didn't have the door or does it not matter at all? I know this may be a dumb question but I just want to finish off the damn thing and not have to pull open the dash for a while...or ever. Thanks for any advice or help from anyone.
Beautiful car !!! I'm in 10 years on my build as well- I get life gets in the way. But its turned out fantastic!!!
If using a 69-72 wiper motor-Here's how to wire-you can just bypass the firewall switch for the constant +12V
If you use a 73-82 motor- you just won't need the constant +12v source
THANKS to Willcox for all their documentation!!!
I can't take credit for the paint & fender flares, credit Josh Powers & his great crew at Custom Image Corvettes in Watertown, South Dakota for that. I'm thinking I'll go with the 73-82 wiper motor, do you concur Dr. Richard? And a big thanks for your reply and advice.
The 73-later will be fine.
If you are not going with the mechanical pump- you can use a universal washer pump- then use a 75-82 cover on the motor- it'll clean up the maze of hoses coming off the wiper.
I just ordered the '73 windshield wiper motor as your suggested. I checked out your profile and had to check my vision to make sure I was seeing what I saw. A BMW V12 !!! Wow!! What an incredible project. I love that!! I'm sure there are those who would say "why wouldn't you keep that cast iron, weak, uninteresting, stock boat anchor for the sake of originally....but not me. You've created something totally unique, outrageously cool. AWESOME! I always believe in change and doing the unexpected and you've done that with an awesome result. I don't have a V12 in my '72. I found a LS2 out of an '05 corvette that a guy was swapping in an LS7. It had under 15K miles and was cheap. I've done a few things to it, Trick Flow heads, Fast intake, Nick Williams throttle body, comp cam. Had it dynoed and it puts out 460 HP to the rear wheels (approximately 513 at the flywheel) Enough so that this old man can get into trouble. Wish I was your neighbor, we could definitely get into some trouble. Anyway thanks again for your help Richard.
HA- thank you. I've enjoyed the heck out of making my car my own!!!
My neighbor? HA- the guy next door was talking to his wife about what kind of rug they were going to put in the sitting room off their bedroom- I looked at my wife and said "Yep- looks like I won't be hanging out with the new neighbor."
Well, let me know if that house goes up for sale. You definitely need better people to hang with Richard. So is the BMW engine running yet? Did you have to have a wiring harness made? How did you find it? A million questions. Its just so awesome and one of a kind.
Yeah, I need new neighbors as well, they usually avoid me because of the amount of noise my car makes, as well as the compressor in my garage. Need to hear that BMW wind up.

HA- right now I'm the only guy in the neighborhood that still does their own yard work!!
Yep- and the car took it's first drive- some things to work out- but the basics moving-steering -stopping are there!

your car looks amazing. I saw i after it had been painted but not assembled yet. The gold paint absolutely popped under the lights, but I was like... damn! That is a lot of gold! The next time I saw it the all the black parts were on it as well as the black on the hood and it looked incredible.
The only problem with being old and still working on cars is that there aren’t a lot of us around. Neighbors only know about me and my cars only when they want to borrow a tool. But think about it if we were all neighbors. We would be so busy chit chatting and having suggestions about how everyone else could mod their car, no one would ever get their project done. Oh wait. None of us are finished yet. But boy are we having fun. Glad to know I am not alone in this journey. Thanks for the inspiration to keep going.
Do you know the guys at Custom Image Corvettes? Or do you know Josh Powers? They did the hard stuff, flares & paint, and fixed a bunch of stuff I messed up on. Thanks for the kind words.
These cars are never really done. We look towards whatever is next and that's the beauty of it all. But I've got tags on mine and have driven it around to friends and local meets. The car really isn't street legal yet, still needs seat belts, windshield wipers, etc. But hell, life is short we gotta have some fun.
Damn Richard that is beyond awesome!! I can't believe you made your own harness. It sounds incredible. Richard you're and artist and the car is a work of art. Damn it man, I need to move to your neighborhood.
Ok, I'm a little slow some days. I thought your car looked familiar, of course you know Josh & the crew, I've stared at your car for a few years now at the CIC site. Ok I've actually drooled over your car (not in person....well you know). Another awesome build by CIC!

Thank you!!! I wanna make the BBQ next year- but it's an 19 hour drive...
I just checked -the house behind me just sold- under contact- the one in my drive video. If the deal falls though I'll let you know!!!
Dude that house is just a bit beyond my reach.....8K square feet!! I hope 5,000 feet of that is the garage. My wife knows that really I could live on a mattress in the garage and I'd be a happy guy. Keep working that glorious beast of a car, it really sounds like a flat-crank C8!!
