Default Door Jam/ Fender Seam

Just noticed the gap between the door jam and the fender. Is this how it came from the factory? I'm certain I've seen cars with that seam glassed over or possibly sealed.

They do sometimes separate at that area. Having front mounted too low or rad support issues can drop nose and pop some of that seam.
