Hello Vett Heads!!! I have a 1979 and I would like to know where I can find the actual amount of cars as close to mine as possible. I have researched the typical Vette sites. And know there were 5670 Dark Blue Vettes built.
However I can not find how many were dark blue with dark blue leather interior. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.
Sad to say, GM did not keep data concerning color or options combinations. Dark blue (cloth or leather) was a popular interior color, but there is no data concerning how many of the 5670 dark blue cars had the blue interior color. On a hunch, I would say the dark blue interior would also have been popular with black, white, light blue, and silver cars.
That is sad.... I was hoping to find that info somwhere. And you are correct for 1979 the other colors. Silver, White, Beige, Lt. Blue, and Dark Blue, where available with dark blue cloth or leather interior. Much to my surprise black wasn't available with blue interior..... Although I think It would be cool!!! Thank you for your response.

One Corvette site reads there were 4768 Dark Blue leather (292) installed however as you stated there is no site that joins it with a Dark Blue exterior.
If you have deep pockets and it is important you could order copies of all 53806 invoices for 1979. However the price would be about $2,690,300. Technically yes, realistically no.
So, if you were to order every dealer invoice for every 1979 car, you could get the numbers you want. Unfortunately, unless you get an internship at GMMA, that would cost nearly $3M.
Other cool info is at this site, for checking engine numbers, etc. http://corvettec3.ca/
Well, I'll offer my best shot at an estimate:
There were 6900 1979 cars with blue interiors (2142 dark blue cloth; 4768 dark blue leather). Blue interiors were likely put into ONLY white (8629), light blue (3203), and dark blue (5670) exterior painted cars; these cars totalled 17502 vehicles of the 53,807 cars made in 1979. Of the cars with dark blue interiors, 70% were leather (4768/[4768 + 2142].
So, 17502 vehicles, with 4768 of them having dark blue leather interiors yields 27.2%. 27.2% of 5670 calculates to 1542 cars that had dark blue exterior and dark blue leather interior.
Not very rare, I think.... Still, a nice looking car.

Thank you and thank you for the compliment however beige was also available with dark blue interior. So based on your formula there would be less of my color combo.

I highly doubt that many Beige cars had blue interiors (if any). I thought about silver having a blue interior...but I've NEVER seen one. Did it happen? Maybe. Frequently? Not a chance....
So, I tried to answer your question, but in the end you decide to mock my approach? Nice guy....
I'm sorry you thought I was mocking you! On the contrary. I thought it was brilliant!!!! I kinda thought there was a mathematical way to get a ball park figure. Apparently I am not smart enough to know how to do it. I was simply pointing out that there were 2 more colors that dark blue leather was available and it may change the figures a little. Again I apologize if u felt I was mocking you. That was not my intent!!!
