I don't like how the original center grill looks. It makes it look like the front has missing teeth. I built a simple, removable bracket to bring the center even with the outside grills.
I went the same route with a bit different approach. Cut a piece of 1/2" aluminum rod into four 4" pieces...drill & tap at center of rod ends as needed for them to extend the mounting surface for center grill out 4". Pretty easy process.
I painted the leading edges of the center grill with silver paint to semi-match the chrome on the LH & RH grill sections.
