Where is the best place to purchase a LT1 Hood for my 72 Shark and will the hardware from my stock hood match up?? Thanks in advance, Merry Christmas!!
Yes all the stock hardware will fit. I am assuming you mean latches and hinges. Somewhere between 68 and 70 they changed the hood support, so be careful and ask questions before you buy.
I checked my new part interchange reference and it states that the 72 LT1 hood is the same as the 72 454 and while the 68-69 427, 70 350/370, 70-71 454, 71 350/330 will work...they are not identical.
Hood hinges identical from 68-82
Hood suport...couldn't find a reference
All 68-71 BB or LT-1 hoods are the same, so is the hood support. In 72, the hood support changed, and as a result, the mounting holes in the hood are in a different location. You must use a 72 hood for your car. You cannot use the earlier hood with the earlier support, because the lower part of the support is different as well, and it won't bolt up to the 72 car. 72 hoods are one year only.

Re: LT1 Hood Question (Corey 68)
I must have gotten lucky, thanks to 462 Ratman. I bought one off of the forum c3 parts for sale section and have had it on my car now for about 1 month. I love it. It was in very good shape when I got it. I couldn`t wait to get it installed. All of the hardware from my hood just bolted right up and with a few adjustments it fits just perfectly.

According to two local reliable Corvette Shops there should be no problem with using a 68-71 hood on a 72.

Not so fast. 1968 had several running changes as far as hoods go. The latch set up on early to mid 68's are diffrent, so if you run across a used hood compare carefully. Almost all aftermarket hoods sold are of the 69-72 variety and will work ok. Just becareful if you go the used route. Thad

Its your car, and its your money, buy whatever you want. I was just trying to save you a headache.

Always check the vendor. The vendors I've talked to can make a hood that will work with both!

Used is different, that is peculiar to '72 (from my reading, haven't actually compared but will now).
