Default Tilt wheel for 1968

I have been trying to find a tilt wheel assem for my 68 Conv. Does anyone know if a 30inch or 32inch will work and also how do you confirm? The car is a pain to get out of as well as enter, it will be at a shop in Jan having some other work done so I would like to have the column installed at that time. Help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Do not have your measurements but 1968 the column was a Telescoping only no tilt.

Thanks, I know it was not available, what I am looking for are measurements so I can buy a aftermarket tilt w/o ignition for the 68. Thanks

With all the changes these cars go through, it very important to measure your own column. I have the Ididit column in my 68 and love it. If you have manual steering, is a good time to do a Borgeson power steering, I love mine. This eliminates all of the leaking hoses in the stock setup.

Thanks for the advice. Just took a look at the install video and the Burgeson unit, definitely think I will go in that direction, PS would be a fine addition.

I have an early 1968 as well and you are darn right about getting in and out. My Corvette has the stock power steering with a Steeroids Rack and Pinion system installed currently.

To make life a bit easier I bought an aftermarket steering wheel that was smaller (in diameter) then the original but works and looks great. The important trick is to learn how to get in and out without putting any weight on the steering wheel. I have several crushed discs in my lower back so it is really challenging at times so I just take my time.

I would love a Tilt steering system but I would prefer the Electric Power Steering system over anything. To get rid of the PS Pump and the parts would be wonderful. I am learning what I can to be able to make the switch and make it clean and work properly.

Here are pictures of my brothers 68 with a ididit column. The wheel in question is a 14” diameter wheel.

I have driven the car just to move it around and do some short maintenance check drives and the the tilt column is a night and day difference.

I have 2 discs in my lower back that are badly damaged (one I’ve had surgery for already and the other isn’t far off). So I know what your getting at as far as back issues. Here are pics to give you an idea.

The only real drawback is it’s a real bear to get that lower dash piece in and if you have a non OEM the fit is just terrible. I need to pull it back off and do some more work to it to “fit” right.

with the way its built it cant be installed wrong, so it would have to be wrong from the assembly plant. If I can get to it this winter, its coming out to be investigated
