On the gauge is a specific nut and ferrule that you have to get from a Vette supplier....the Auto Meter style kits will not work......
The nut and ferrule may be available somewhere else but I have never been able to find one.....
Tough to imagine threads on the block side being buggered but stranger things have happened.
Try some other bolts you have laying around to see if the thread size is different. (I'd think a US standard with non fine pitch) Double check your insert to make sure its "starter thread" is not buggered as well.
Lastly get a tap and die set to chase the block threads if needed.

While NPT is unique compared to a straight thread, I didn't offer the OP to put a wrench on it.

Just like he knows his current one doesn't fit, he would have figured out pretty quickly that my advice wouldn't either long before he'd
have made it worse. I guess I'm still more used to working on more modern and non US car which use a standard thread for these fittings and sensors.

The oil pressure port threads in the block are 1/8" NPT. Don't try to thread a bolt into the port as suggested above - that'll screw it up bad.
