Lots of late model trucks have plastic bladed clutch fans. Not even that late model anymore, I think it started in the 90's on various trucks and RWD cars, maybe even earlier. I don't know which ones would work though. I know the fan mounting points on the clutch stayed the same for a long time.
Will ck it out. Post count doesnt mean I know anyhing lol
Scotty let me know how that works out. I had one of those on my 'El for years lovedit.
moved plenty of air impossible to break it seemed. We used those on Saugus speedway cars that would see 68-7200 rpm all the time.
Never had a failure.
Fan on my 02 5.3 is metal, will run outside and double check. Dont care about some hp loss on a dyno its about bulletproofing that cooling system
Ive had metal clutch fans destroy hoods radiators take out water pumps etc not using one period.
CV67...just furthering this discussion with an anecdote;
Me, a Chevy guy through and through. For decades I had K-5 Blazers as my 'winter beaters'. All 350's
Once I had bought a used unit with a UGH! Flex fan....no shroud. so living in NO. VT. cooling is no issue...in fact, all winter I'd run around with cardboard in front of the radiator!
My Bro is moving apartments, naturally he borrows the 'Burro'.
On the Sunday, he returns my truck...he's got a sheepish look on his face.
"Hey Hal look at this"....YUP! the flex fan had 'left the building' and is sticking up thru the DOUBLE thick metal hood LIKE A SHARKFIN!
"It just exploded". He was under the gun to move...so he hit the local 'service station' (remember THOSE!) and got them to put a 5 bladed Chevy fan into it.
They laughed while they did it.
REALLY, REALLY hard to beat Chevy for reliable performance.

I have compromised the structural integrity of the fan by removing material in the center, making it fit the fan clutch. But, it is rated for 8,000 rpm, and with a 5,500 rpm redline on an old clutch, I doubt it will even see 4,000 rpm, so I'm confident it will work well. I'll start a thread on it once I get it up and running for a while this spring, so watch for it. See ya!

Something similar happened to a buddy of mine with his modified '74 big block some years back. After getting out of the town he gave it 'the beans' away on a straight stretch of quiet two lane open dual carriageway - at about 80 mph the flex fan fixing bolts severed........instantaneously cutting through the upper and lower radiator hoses like a circular saw and burying itself halfway through the hood. The effect of that huge coolant loss under the car was for it to instantly lose traction on both rear wheels (remembering that he was on full gas) and causing the car to do a couple of 360's (at that speed) - he was lucky, very lucky - the traffic at that moment was light. He didn't hit anything and fortunately ran off the road on to a wide grass verge. Lucky for him at that point there was no Armco barrier and the car remained on 4 wheels...... he could have so easily have become 'toast'!
My Dad lost a blade on his Flexalite flex fan on his vette. Lucky it went flying down, and not up.
I had issues with a generic replacement fan for my junker Buick. Forgot to check the direction of rotation.....wonder why it seemed to overheat in just a few minutes???? ☹
that is why my electric fan conversion uses C5 OEM stuff... the reason OEM stuff is dependable is cuz they don't like to give stuff away under warranty.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
