Default accelerator assembly interchange

Will a 1976L-1982 accelerator assembly bolt into a 1968? Like is the bolt spacing the same and location of where the throttle cable appears through the firewall?

I'd like to use a perfect condition 1980 assembly in my 1968 to replace the not so perfect assembly.

Yes, they will fit. You might have to change the auto trans kickdown switch position a little, but it will work. I changed the pedal assembly in my
'69 to the stronger 1972 and later type with the single iron bar instead of the flimsy early '69 one that easily bends, and it's great. http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/1...pedal-linkage/

So. Lemme preface this by saying I had a jerry rigged spliced together throttle cable. When I went to replace it with corvette america #42773, the pedal assembly basically fell apart. The arm is bent and won't stay on the pedal assembly.

So I had a 1980 pedal assembly in the basement. I cut the top of the bracket off that holds those switches as my car is a manual. I bolted it to the firewall, and connected the new cable. Now I've got this issue. The cable appears too short.

With the cable pulled all the way out, and the top of the accelerator assembly slammed against the firewall, the cable is just a little too short to reach the ball stud (by about 1/2'").

HOWEVER, if I pull the cable all the way in until it stops, and then pull the throttle linkage to wide open the stud is in the correct spot for wide open.

Some things I think are wrong:

1) even at idle, the accelerator assembly probably should not be slammed against the firewall.
2) The pedal is way high off the floor.

Both of these seem to add evidence that the cable is too short.. What do you think?

I am using a Lokar cable which is adjustable, so no problems there. But you can change the cable throw length somewhat by bending the iron bar on the pedal assembly (I used a vise and bent it slowly to get full throttle). If it already brings the gas pedal high, that is to get full throttle. Try bending the bar to get the needed 1/2" for the idle end. That sleve looks like it's hindering. You need more cable throw than what you have to get full range. If you attach the cable at idle position, and can't get it to reach the ball stud, then it's too short.
