accelerator assembly interchange
I'd like to use a perfect condition 1980 assembly in my 1968 to replace the not so perfect assembly.

'69 to the stronger 1972 and later type with the single iron bar instead of the flimsy early '69 one that easily bends, and it's great. http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/1...pedal-linkage/

So I had a 1980 pedal assembly in the basement. I cut the top of the bracket off that holds those switches as my car is a manual. I bolted it to the firewall, and connected the new cable. Now I've got this issue. The cable appears too short.
With the cable pulled all the way out, and the top of the accelerator assembly slammed against the firewall, the cable is just a little too short to reach the ball stud (by about 1/2'").
HOWEVER, if I pull the cable all the way in until it stops, and then pull the throttle linkage to wide open the stud is in the correct spot for wide open.
Some things I think are wrong:
1) even at idle, the accelerator assembly probably should not be slammed against the firewall.
2) The pedal is way high off the floor.
Both of these seem to add evidence that the cable is too short.. What do you think?
