Since I have to replace my brand new camshaft, I thought I would check in the forum to see if anyone knows about the shape of the original gaskets on the L-36. All the ones I have seen have this butt-ugly part that sits there staring at me, sticking out from the manifold and just resting on the head, like it should be cut off.
Was this the way they looked from the factory?
If you mean that one part in the center area I just marked it, masked it and painted it the same colour as the engine so it didn't stick out as the big blue gasket. Honestly there's so much stuff there it's hard to see anyway but I felt like it
I like seeing the gasket......it shows not only that a gasket was done.....but what gasket it is and most times if it was done right.......
To me....painting all that reminds me of a 80's used car detail booth........(No offense Mooser!).
Another thing is that the OEM gasket has the heat riser hole and I urge you to get the Fel-Pro part that blocks this off.....the aluminum 390 horse intake is such a crap Winters high porosity piece that the heat riser port gets brittle and cracks...and renders the intake junk as it is not repairable......
The other thing is the extra heat the heat riser port sends to the carb in the tight BBC Vette engine compartment....
