I'm putting a vacuum gauge in the dash and I'm wondering where the best place to hook it up is - if I can avoid running the line into the engine compartment and instead hook it up in the cabin, that would be easier, but I'm not sure how that effects the accuracy of the gauge.
The closer to the carb the quicker it will react.
You can't connect it to anything that is connected to the vacuum tank and I believe all of the interior lines are connected to it. On the 72 and earlier even the heater control is taped into the line that runs the wiper door. Not sure where the later ones are sourced
Have to agree, if you want to know where your manifold vacuum is. you need to run a line threw the firewall to the manifold.
But why do you need a vacuum gauge in the dash.
I understand for tuning. But all the time?
I removed my ash tray door and made a delete panel that I then mounted a gauge pod to. Not finished it up but it's gonna have a vac gauge when I get back to it.

Some of the early 60s Pontiac Grand Prix and Catalina cars with performance packages had them mounted on the shifter console as I recall. But no tach! You can see them for sale on ebay.
