Default engine shipping

Hi Guys
I am planning on shipping my LS5 engine from California to Texas for a rebuild. Curious as to words of wisdom on best options. Pallet shipping or crate and I assume an LTL carrier. do you know of any good companies that can handle the crating here on the west coast ?
thanks in advance

LTL for sure. YRC, SAIA, Dominion to name a few.

I would buy an engine stand not the wheeled type but the low level wheeled cradle type from Summit or Jegs.
Build a heavy duty lower pallet that is sized for fork lift forks. Bolt the engine/cradle to the pallet.
Then a complete internal frame wood frame and then a plywood cover.
Build it so it can be disassembled without destroying it when it gets to your engine builder so it can be reused on the return trip.

Default thanks everyone

sounds like a good plan from everyone. I have access to a proper pallet and can build a frame and cover. biggest issue is to get it to the freight company but I think i can mount it to the pallet and use my hoist to put it in my pick up and drive it to a shipping point after I seal the top. Mark at Vortec Pro will do the rebuild which should be a lot of fun

If you are in Monterey, why not use a local machine shop and engine builder.
LJ's Speed and Machine in Napa, CA. builds many Corvette specific engines for a local specialty shop.
They have been building race and hot rod engines for over 50 years.
I only bring this up because several years ago I went through a 2 year battle between a shipping company and a well known create engine builder after the engine cradle failed during shipping and the engine bounced around in the shipping create across several states.
They both blamed the other and I was without an engine for close to 2 years.
