I know little about capacitors so hope someone can help.
The photo shows an inline brown capacitor which sits under the dashborad and just above the steering column, this is over 50m years old so probably not functioning, can someone kinldy suggest a replacement?
That is for your brake light switch to prevent a popping sound in your radio when you apply and release your brakes. So with the radio on if there is no background noise when applying or releasing the brakes all is well.
Or your turn signals to prevent the same issue when cycling on and off.
It might still be functioning or not. Look on the drum of the capacitor it should have some markings on it. It's that MFD rating you're looking to replicate. Then get on line and find a modern replacement or if you're lucky enough to have an electronics store you can pick one up.
Many thanks for this guidance: with the background noise from a 454 which is nicer than listening to the radio anyway; I dont think I will worry to much about this now especialy as it still has the original radio fitted, and as the capacitor is
also original I will clean it up and leave it alone to happily live with it.
