ould someone please forward me a pic of their BBC fuel pump and how close it gets to the frame around the A-Arm mounting bracket?
I am considering adding the frame reinforcement brackets as mentioned in the chevy power manual. I am just unsure how tight everything will get around the fuel pump.
Thanks in advance!
This is the reinforcement kit I am considering
Not my car. But this is what the reinforcements look lime added to the lower a arm mount.
WOW, you sure don't ask much!
Rough measurements, it's about 1" from the frame's rounded spring wall, about 2" from the box of the frame, and about 3" from the engine mount horn. The only interference I think you may run into is possibly at that radius for the spring, but you could grind out the reinforcement for clearance.
(Looks like I should put a short sleeve over the soft fuel return line to make sure it doesn't rub against the edge of the coil wall.)

Wow that is a wonderful picture. Thanks!
That is exactly the area I am concerned about.
See my blue triangle.
The pic seems to confirm that the fuel lines hang down too low and would interfere with that bracket.
Unless someone can confirm that the two fuel lines would clear, I think I'll have to leave that bracket off, or seriously modify it.
The twin silver pipes I am not concerned about as they appear to be auto trans lines? I don't remember having them.
Thanks Mooser!
That is an even better pic.
It looks really really close but looks like you made it work.
And mine is a manual so I will have 2 less lines to worry about.
There's a bit of room there, not a lot but they clear everything. (I did not put the gusset to the motor mount)
I just looked and it was 2014 (how is that even possible) so 7 years worth of summer driving without any issues clearance wise or anything

Mooser's fuel return fitting appears to be at a different angle than mine. My pump is a NAPA parts counter pump that I replaced in a hotel parking lot in 1992ish and not Delco branded.
Good point
I'd have to go look for sure but I believe that's a Spectra pump, seems to me at the time the airtex/carter were'nt clocked the right way for my car
I had clearance issues as well so I went to an external fuel pump and ran the lines up minus the old fuel pump. It was a bit noisier but solved the problem with the pump location. Now I have EFI and I have the Electric fuel pump inside the fuel tanks and the noise is virtually gone.
Terrific info guys! I suspected it was close, and that looks really close. But thanks for the confirmation it can be made to work.
I am thinking about re-shaping that bracket to give slightly more clearance for fuel hose clamp access. (Similar to below)
How's that sound?
That hose isn't too bad, having some clearance is always good. Cutting that curve will have very little effect on the strength (as in weakening it) so...
I can just get my the first part of my baby finger between the rubber on the forward hose and the gusset plate so maybe 3/8" clearance if that tells you anything.
Honestly, mine's no where near the plate so I don't loose any sleep over that (lots of other things but not that)

This is a shot from above of the RobbMC fuel pump in my frame. It is very close and I can barely get the hose and fitting on the pump.
