here's an earlier post showing the position of where it's from in the engine bay firewall, under the steering column exit
and a couple of pics
Part M not only secures the Steering Column at it's lower point, but also adjusts the position, or "length" of the Steering Lock Cable coming from the Transmission. Finding a loose one, underneath a running car, is a strange find.
Thanks Steve. I've got the stove bolt but my steering column doesn't have the arm that the cable fastens to. PO removed most of the anti-theft/alarm system from the car.
you don't have the arm. so, if your key won't come out of the lock, you have to finesse the stub where PO cut the arm off back to the up position.
also, somebody was trying to remove the steering column. check all the other steering column bolts. under dash and at rag joint. it would be unpleasant to turn the wheel and the car sez "eff it. Ima keep going straight."
The key comes out. I have dropped the column to do under dash work and replaced it. Everything seems to be working the way it is supposed to. The rag joint is tight. Did GM have an option to not have the transmission lock? I do know that the masjacket is a 77 because of the turn signal. That's a one year only thing.
thanks again.
