Ugh... Lets just call this part two ov my T-top seal question. I checked on this thing a month ago, and it was fine.I could smell it, but couldn't see it. Today i went inside and well... the rainy winter has not been nice to it. Just needs a cleaning. I'll reef the carpet out later when its driving and dry it, but for now, just need to be able to sit in it and touch stuff.
Best (cheap/easy) way to get mold off vinyl, seats, carpet, other areas? Seems like a basic cleaner and wipe task, but you guys are the experts...
Really good stuff that I use on most surfaces.
Depot carries it I believe, I'd rather buy from them anyways.
Amazon is starting to gouge for everything & the shipping is suspect at times.

Damn it got wet in there. It was fine just over a month ago. I'm guessing the nasty cold spell we got lifted or hurt the seal somehow, and the rain just poured in since. It rarely... very rarely gets that cold here, for that long. ****, what a mess...
Poor car…if it’s getting wet enough to get moldy the rest of the car will be getting rusty, especially the birdcage. No cleaner will fix that. Basic C3 buying advice is to walk away from one that’s been kept outside. Don’t make your car one of those. Get it under cover!

I know man. I'm pretty choked. I dont mind the mold, that i can clean, and it wont rust enough in a couple months to matter, but i do not like how wet cars get 'buggy' with the electricals. Normally even that i wouldn't worry about a couple months ov dampness, but these cars seem to have a LOT ov wiring. I would just gut the thing for now and drive it all Mad Max, but its gotta pass a vehicle inspection... and they have no sense ov humor when it comes to stripped down cars...

Be careful and avoid caustic cleaners. Something like simple clean, orange cleaner or the many cleaners offered by the vendors like Mcquires, Groits, Adams' etc. I recall attending a seminar by Tom Hill with Corvette who was asked about cleaning surfaces in C3s...his advice, clean towel and water! That the ingredients of today's cleaner solutions don't mix well with fabrics and materials of the 1970s.
The smell from the vinegar leaves after a short while and is much milder on your interior than the mold chemicals. And it works better as well. You can also rent rug scrubber from home depot after the vinegar does it's thing if you are worried about the smell.
The car has to be inspected first, and then i'll happily drive around without a carpet. The seats are getting mothballed too. I need FAR lighter, modern performance seats. At very minimum something from a C5 or Fiero.
The ultimate plan with this car is a 69 body with a red 80+ interior, and modern seats. Once its running and insured, i'll start looking for used 80+ red interior parts, as there is no way i'm spending 5K on an interior.
Hydrogen peroxide. Same stuff you use for first aid (3%, I think). It will kill the mold, cause it to release, doesn’t stink, and should have no affect on anything non-organic.
I had a garage fridge that had grown a lot of black mold around the door seals, hydrogen peroxide cleaned it up very well.
Im a white vinegar fan. Near the coast it is always humid during the summer and if the car isn’t used enough the interiors starts to mold. White vinegar in a spray bottle and a soft brush always does the trick and the salad smell goes away.
Heh... at least today i found out i dont need a carpet to pass inspection. It was coming out after it passed anyways, now i can reef it now and not have to worry about cleaning it.
Now... if we ever get any remotely cooperative WEATHER... i can start cleaning this thing...
There are many things that can lead to mold growth. When the conditions are right (humid, etc.), mold growths can appear. Although mold spores can’t be completely removed, mold growths can be remediated. This means that the mold spore level can be brought back to normal.
