I'm trying to find a cheap big block crate motor... all in the same sentance, i must be crazy :jester
I'm thinking about running with just the alternator (cheaper brackets :jester) No power steering, ac etc. Ok so maybe A/c.
What would i be looking at parts wise to assemble a 350-450hp motor, street driven, lotsa torque? Or where can i find something similar in crate motor form?

Re: Big block (ZD75blue)
If you are only looking for 350-450 hp, why go through all the trouble and expense of going to a big block. That kind of power is very easy to make in a small block. Swapping a big block into a small block car can nickle and dime you a bit also.
To answer your question the Chevy H.O 454, puts out 425 hp and a lot more tq, close to 500 I think. They are around $3500.00
If you really want to do it on a budget, pick up a wrecking yard 454, install a few hop-up parts, and go for it. You can find good running 454s around here for under $1k. Spend a few bucks on headers, intake, cam, etc, and build the beginnings of a monster.
I don't think you'll be able to put a new crate BB under the hood for under $5k with all the extra *stuff*.
