before I change the hose assuming it is just old and beginning to bulge, is there something I should check on that could also be the potential culprit?
The hose, is the radiator to thermostat hose, it is bulging on the thermostat side. No bulging on the radiator side.
No problems with overheating.
Here’s a pic.

edit to add:
I did a flow check, opened the cap and started the car. The coolant level dropped significantly, which means it isn’t a thermostat issue, right?

Reason: Add flow check info.

Replace the hose. Also, with the engine cold and rad cap off, when the coolant level drops in the rad, immediately top up the rad with coolant and replace cap. You don't want air in the cooling system.
Maybe I’m wrong about the thermostat opening.
When I first started the car the coolant level dropped. Now the car is definitely warmed up, but the coolant level is clearly back up to where it is when the car is shut off.

Either your gauge is out of whack, the stat has failed in the open position or there is no stat. Is that pic at cruising speed vice sitting in the garage? What's the ambient air temperature?
Your alternator belt tensioning brace is on wrong,
At the risk of showing my ignorance….huh?
I would have never known that that the tensioning brace was on wrong, if you had not pointed it out. However I have no idea how to attach it so that it is right!

This is sitting in garage. Temp 70 degrees.
However, this does not change, at all, even while driving.

If I were you, I would pull the stat out and inspect. Look for small holes drilled in the top of the stat. Is the stat closed or open when you remove it? Put the stat in a pot of water and begin boiling the water while observing the stat. Does it begin to open before the water boils? Do you know if that is a stock water pump?

I am not following your train of thought resdoggie.
Coolant does not flow to the wate-rneck. It flows away from it.
So theoretically, it should not matter if the thermostat is open, is closed or missing in action.
The bulge is past the thermostat.
I think the bulge is just fatigue, unrelated to the thermo.

So I checked the temp gauge, car off, it is in the same spot as my picture I posted of the gauge.
I checked the green wire coming off my alternator, no wear, hooked up nicely.
Maybe a defective gauge?
Im going to replace the upper radiator hose, top off my coolant, and replace the cap.
I will need to diagnose my gauge issue, it seems stuck where it is.
