I recently replaced the cable and housing for my 81' and the needle is still erratic and bouncing. Can the speedometer itself be the cause or is there something I have overlooked? It was a relatively simple housing/cable replacement.
Thanks,
PDM
I wouldn't think that the speedo itself would be the problem, but anything's possible. If the gears go in the speedo head, it usually doesn't work at all. It sounds more like the cable might be kinked, or have too tight a bend in it someplace. Do you have cruise control, if so, did you replace both cables, or just the lower one?
I used graphite on last one but did not add any to this. will pull it out and do so. If it's not in the speedometer itself then I'm hoping you are correct and the cable has too much bend in it; likely from the firewall down. There is a great deal of 'extra' cable at the bottom. Will try. Thanks.
