I have a set of used 454 forged pistons, standard bore, removed after less than a year installed, low mileage.
Wondering if they have any value or should I just throw them out.
They were installed in my 70 which I bought in mid 1984, had issues with the engine later in the year which drove me to have it rebuilt properly.
Ended up boring the engine 30 over, had to buy new pistons.
These pistons are L-2399F, last owner bought them late 1983..
Been sitting in a box for 38 years.
Are they worth bothering to offer for sale or are they just 8 paper weights?
somebody will want them. there are lots of flat and dish piston 454's being put into vettes, chevelles, etc. not all need rebored and oversize pistons. also, many guys need 1 piston for their numbers matching rehab.
Agree, Id think the guy who wanted to do a driveway rebuild might give up 100 or so.
Id try your local CL, selling them here. If they are cheap enough they will sell
They are good pistons for a mild build. Hard to find a std bore block that doesn't need anything...but sometimes you get lucky. I know a young man trying to put one together on a strict budget and they might work for him
but they are going into 38 year old bores. and new ones are the same tech.if only minor scratches on the sides, ring grooves all good and no detonation pitting on the crowns,..they are after all OE.

My experience have been building Chevys for 30 years is the bores on the STD block won't be round. The pistons also need to be checked but if the block is an egg You're looking at a bore and hone Machine shop will charge you to mic them or you can go 30 over and don't look back. Good luck

No, they're not OE. Prior owner had the engine rebuilt, bought standard size pistons. I ran into issues with this engine, found the cylinders had a taper, may have been out of round, had it rebuilt properly. Bored 30 over. Being standard size aftermarket forged pistons makes me think the market is probably rather small for them.
