Default Carb ID

I found this in my garage. I see it's a Rochester but I can't find any numbers. Any thoughts on what it's for?

Thanks
Tom

I answered your post in the C1/C2 section, but I'll answer here too, for those that don't recognize the carb.

That's a Rochester 4GC. They were used on some GM cars from around 57 till about 63. Originally it would have had either a brass or aluminum tag to identify it, under one of the top plate screws. Some 4GC's had 4 or 5 numbers stamped in the air horn, which would have been the same as the last numbers of the part number on the tag.

That's correct. The 4GC was also popularly known as the "4-Jet," not to be confused with a "QuadraJet." It was used on full-sized Chevy's with 327's and 409's, as well as on the 283 Chevelle, Chevy II and full-size up through 1966. In 1965, the Q-Jet became the standard carb on the new 396 big block, and on the 427 in 1966. 1966 was also the first year for the Q-Jet on the 327 as the 4GC 4-Jet and the Carter AFB were phased out of production. The Vettes used the Holley carb in the 1965/67 transition period from Carter AFB to Q-Jet.
