The cable I bought recommended "gun grease". It can take the outdoor environment & heat of the exhaust.
Those cables have a spiral pattern to them, almost like an auger. And that design goes up hill. If you use anything too thin, the auger will eventually "pump" lube all the way up the cable sheath or housing, and into the back of the dash where it gums up the speedometer.
When you grease the cable, only lube the bottom half, light coating.
