Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
I have the Walker Dynomax Super Turbos on my 82 and the Ultra Turbos on my 86. The Supers are louder than stock, and I can/do set off some car alarms in parking decks. The Ultras are louder than the Supers, and set off more car alarms! :)
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (tommelton)
Thanks Tom. Can you draw a comparison. For example to a stock Mustang GT or a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP? Believe it or not the Mustang is what I wish to emulate. Can you hear the stereo at 60mph on the highway? I had a bad (for me) experience with side pipes three years ago that I do not want to repeat. They were NASCAR LOUD!
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
Paul,
I had the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers installed on my vette this summer. As well as new pipes from header back, aluminized and chrome tips put on. The whole job cost me $700 Canadian at a local Windsor shop. BTW, for the Borla mufflers, did you think of calling Ecklers? They have a Guaranteed Lowest Prices offer that will beat any advertised price by 1%. I've had stuff shipped from them to Canada. Another tip to save money ... ask them to ship it USPS Ground. Takes longer to get it but saves money! Good Luck!
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
Perhaps the last post in this thread. It started so simply: just buy a pair of mufflers. It turned into a miserable enncounter with cross-border shopping. I will not go into details beyond what I have already stated.
But there is a positive side :) . First by research I found what I wanted within Canada's borders. But more importantly to me, I received three e-mails from Forum members in the USA who were prepared to order for me to them and then re-ship to me. Think about that kindness. It does not make financial sense but it sure does make me feel good re the Forum. Thanks people!
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (dukvet76)
I don't want those Borla twin tips they offer. I will be ordering from Speedy Muffler/Walker on Monday. I need to paint high-heat black before installation in April.
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
Paul. If you want to hear what DynoMax sound like go to their website http://www.dynomax.com. They have a sound menu. I think Dynomax is made by Walker. This is what I'm looking at - $75 each wholesale
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
Boy, that stinks! I can understand importing problems for the U.S. after 9/11, but what difference would exports make to the government?
I once bought some rare books from a dealer in Canada. Shipped UPS- After not receiving them for several weeks, I was notified that they (customs) had opened the package, for which they summarily charged me a fee in the HUNDREDS of dollars! Evidently, there is some sort of racket with U.S and Canadian Customs where they "bring in" outside people to open the packages for them. Then they charge the unlucky recipient (or mark) massive amounts of money for doing so. Boy, did I scream at my Congressman. I told customs where to put their effin' lousy books.
Screw them.

Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (MassVette)
arrange your own shipping and have it picked up at the amnuf/dealer or have them send it to the shipper's terminal. I've done that a couple of times when hey refused to ship stuff to me. It's a huge paper mess and I don't think I would do it for a pair of mufflers but for large parts...
For smaller parts I have a buddy in the US. I have the stuff sent to him, then I paypal him the money to send it and he can pay the shipping with the paypal debit card. Works like a champ.
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (Twin_Turbo)
I'm now experiencing a mess with parts I ordered through EBay. Never again, it's not worth the hassle. Buy Canadian. It may cost us more but there is not problems.
Paul, if you have any business acq. they can get parts at wholesale.
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
Don't let it bother you. Any company who can't figure out how to ship to Canada is too Mickey-Mouse to do business with. If they can't figure that out, I'm sure their service is of the same caliber. All they have to do is declare the customs category and UPS or Fedex handles all the rest. As for risk mentioned by another reply, Visa pretty well eliminates that. Find another vendor. There are plenty of them willing to take your money.
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (75 Hot One)
I realize that UPS or Fedex plays the cross-border brokerage role. But I do object to them charging me ~24% of the declared value of the shipment PLUS shipping for scanning a bar code....
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
Where does that 24% go? Is it a tariff, or a hidden (not so hidden tax) imposed by your government? If that's so, what's the deal with NAFTA, I thought it was supposed to promote freetrade between All North American Nations?

Or to simplify matters, an item listed in Eckler's (or other) Corvette catalogue for $100US costs me more than $200CDN by the time it arrives at my door.
Re: Does Canada have a Deoderant Problem? (paul79)
I am as fickle as a.......(You fill in the blanks).
Last night I did an internet search on the DynoMax Super Turbo series of mufflers. Mustang and other brand owners. There was a general consensus that they are good value for the money. But there was some concern re fitment and durability. As noted above I am picky. So one last search for those SS Borla #40352s; someone must have them still on the shelves. And I found a brand new pair on, wait for it.........EBay ;) . Two separate listings by the same vendor in the Southern USA.
The "buy now" price was $87.95US. OK with me. But the infamous, "We ship to the USA only" clause was there. So this morning I e-mailed the vendor re shipping to Canada by US Mail. To my surprise he replied no problem; would that be Ground Parcel Post or Air Parcel Post? :D :) .
So I arranged to buy now. And I have. And here is how it breaks down in $US. As Post will be used there will be no brokerage fees. For each muffler: $87.95(the muffler) + $31.65(Air Parcel Post) + $2.60(insurance) for a total of $122.20. I am pretty pleased with this outcome and my internet detective work. And I will now have what I was really looking for in the first place :) .
