Has anyone used the Billy Boat insulated side pipes? Allegedly they stay cool without a shield and flow as well as others. They are pricey, but if you don't have to buy a shield then.....
They would very likely still get hot enough to burn skin. I have tried multiple methods before installing heat shields including wrapping the inserts completely in over an inch of fiberglass heat mat insulation and the pipes still eventually got too hot to touch I believe because of the heat transferred through the outer pipe from the headers... in the end what worked for me was the $75 I spent on patriot heat shields and DIY brackets mounted on top of some header wrap which is wrapped around the pipes in a single band where the clamps for the shield bolt on and attach to the pipes completely resolved any possibility of burns where the shields are positioned.

It's weird, my un-insulated stainless side pipes with no shields don't burn, although my friend somehow touched his leg way up by the header part, and did get burned.
