I have just purchased as set of reproduction C5 wheels. I knew in advance that I would need wheel spacers front and back to fit them to my 1979 C3 but have read varying sizes for the spacers required.
Does anyone know for sure what width spacers I need.
The front wheels are 17x9.5 ET54 with 245/45 ZR 17 tyres
The rear wheels are 18x10.5 ET58 with 275/40 ZR 18 tyres
Not a major problem to work out once the car is back on it's wheels but at the moment it is sitting up in the air and won't be on the ground for a while so thought if someone knew for sure what spacers I need then I could get them ordered early.

Well, take my post here with a grain of salt. I've run C5Z wheels on my car for several years, but my setup may have different detail/clearance issues than yours. I've got a C4 suspension under mine, but narrowed to stock C3 width. I use IIRC 2 1/4" adapters front and rear. The main difference I see would be the rear sidewall clearance at the stock C3 trailing arms. I can't offer up any information on that.
Hi, Thanks for the reply, so basically I may have issues at the rear but the front shoud be fine, that's a good start. I like the wheel to body position of your one
I did look through the sticky but most of the wheels on there are custom wheels with whatever off set they wanted and not C5 wheels on a C3 with spacers. Getting custom made wheels over here is cost prohibitive so the spacer route is the only way for me to go.
You should just measure the back spacing and you want to end up with 4.0 - 4.5 inches in front with the spacer width and 4,5 - 5 inches rear.
Actually the 255/45/17 is a good width for the front, but 9.5 inch can use up to 275/40/17 width They are both small 26.1 and 25.7 diameter and I use them on my 79 with correct wheels on the front of my 79.
This is a picture when I was trying 255/50/17 and 315/35/17 rears
Well, due to postage times etc. getting stuff from the USA to the UK, I decided to but a set of 2" spacers for the front and 3" spacers for the back, if the back is too wide I can always machine the spacers down to suit. I want to get this sorted as soon as I can so just couldn't wait till I get the car back together and then order the spacers.
I will et you know how it goes when they arrive and are fitted.
